Chalked at eleven, every morning
What the boats brought in this morning.
Three boats hold a standing order with us. Everything else comes from the dawn auction, fifty paces from our door. This is the list as Yiorgos chalked it.
The board
Off the boats this morning.
Prices move with the weather. When the meltemi holds the fleet off the bank for three days, the gilthead is two euros more, and we say so.
- Whole gilthead tsipoura €24 / kg From the Aphroessa. 600–800 g is the size we like. Charcoal, lemon, oregano, nothing else.
- Anchovies gavros €11 / kg Off the Niki. Marinated in vinegar and oil since yesterday. Eat them with your fingers.
- Octopus chtapodi €17 Sun-dried on the line at the pier, then charcoal-grilled. Potato purée, capers, green oil.
- Sea bream lithrini €26 / kg From the Maria-T. Salt-baked whole and opened at the table, which takes two of us.
- Mussels mydia €12 Rope-grown at Maronia, an hour west. Steamed with ouzo, garlic and lemon.
- Bonito palamida €19 Grilled rare with green olive oil, or cured into lakerda for forty days.
- Sardines sardeles €9 Off the Niki. On the charcoal, with a little salt, five minutes.
- Red mullet barbounia €32 / kg When there are any. Fried, whole, and you eat the head.
- Sole glossa €28 / kg From the shallow ground the Maria-T keeps. Meunière, with a lemon.
How to read it
A few things the board does not say.
- Per kilo means per kilo. A whole fish is weighed in front of you before it goes on the charcoal, and again on the bill if you ask.
- Two people, one fish. A 700 g gilthead feeds two with mezedes before it. We will say so if you order three.
- Sold out is sold out. We do not keep a freezer for the board. When the octopus is gone at nine, it is gone.
- Ask what is good. The waiter knows which boat every fish came off, and will tell you which one Sofia would order.

We post the board by email, six mornings a week.
Yiorgos sends it around eleven, with what is on the board and what is worth coming for. No marketing, no offers, no Sundays.
