On foot
From the railway station, walk toward the water and turn left along the front. Nine minutes. You will pass the fish auction, which is the low building with the wide doors; we are fifty paces past it.
By car
From the Egnatia Odos take the Alexandroupoli Port exit and follow signs for the harbour rather than the town. The pier road is one-way east.
Parking
The pier is a working quay until seven in the evening and parking on it before then is genuinely unwelcome, not merely discouraged. After 19:00 it is free and there is plenty. At lunch, use the paid car park behind the customs house, two minutes away.
From the airport
Dimokritos Airport is twenty-five minutes by car. There is no useful bus. A taxi is around twenty euros; ask for the harbour, not the centre, or you will be dropped ten minutes away in the wrong direction.
By bus
The KTEL station is twelve minutes on foot, along the same front. Buses from Komotini and Xanthi run hourly until early evening and less usefully after that.
The two steps
There are two steps from the pavement into the front room and a level side entrance through the yard, which is the way to come with a wheelchair or a pushchair. Telephone ahead and someone will meet you at it. The terrace is level. The lavatories are not, and we are sorry about it.
If you can see the lighthouse, you are ninety seconds away.
