The building
Two expansions, three ovens, one wall we could not move.
Limeniou Embarmonti 14 was a chandlery before it was a tavern. The hooks in the ceiling of the middle room are original and we have been told we may not remove them.
The room you sit in was built to store rope, sailcloth and tar for the boats that are still moored outside.
1978
Vassilis rented the front room, eleven tables, a hand-built grill and a wood oven in the yard. The oven lasted sixteen years.
1994
The first expansion took the room next door and brought the oven indoors. This was the second oven, and Sofia maintains it was the best of the three. Vassilis does not comment.
2016
The second expansion took the building on the other side and added the terrace, forty seats under a vine that was planted the same year and now needs cutting back twice a summer. The third oven went in and the conservation office told us the ceiling hooks in the middle room were to stay.
They were right. People ask about them every night.
The terrace
Open May to October, weather permitting, and closed the moment the wind turns because the vine is not a roof. It looks across the pier to the lighthouse, which is the reason to sit there.
Ask for the terrace between May and October.
